Nothing compares to a mother's touch--healing, comforting, loving. My mother was a nurse, a lucky thing for a kid who got strep throat at the drop of a hat.
Right now nurses are taking care of her. She's in the ER 130 miles away. Her blood pressure is sky high. She's almost 95 and I'm scared.
Across town my sister is overwhelmed. Her sweet mother-in-law just came home from the hospital to hospice care. Hospice nurses are tucking her into her new hospital bed. She is 10 years younger than our mom.
How can this be happening to both mothers at the same time. It's surreal.
My daughter and grandson are on a plane right now heading here for vacation, unaware of the day's developments. I'll dispense hugs and kisses all around. Tonight I'm the mother's touch provider.

Such plain speaking telling the story of a profound moment in the lives of a handful of people. I like your straightforward, kindly but not mushy telling. And on a real life note: Blessings to your family and families in this time of transition.
