Family Feud

So much drama. The tears, the recriminations, the guilt-mongering. Blame and shame distributed generously around the dinner table. Welcome to family time.

When we should be united, we four siblings have never been more apart.
There's Lori, the eternal martyr. Ronnie, formerly Mr. Neutral now Mr, Nonchalant. Lynda, the cheerful voice of common sense. Then there's me, begging our mother to please tell the same story to all of us.

Lynda and I--the action sisters--offer options with pros and cons of selling the house and moving into assisted living a mile away. Our logical approach rings a bell with brother Ronnie, but he lacks the action gene. Lori's poor-me internal programming keeps the focus on her rather than our elderly mother's needs.

I believe Mama will run out the clock staying in a house she doesn't want to own anymore. She won't listen to reason. Mama will only listen to Lori who tells her that we are plotting against her. Lori does not to lose the free place she's lived for 25 years. So it's devolved into an us vs. them battle.

I don't see a peaceful reconciliation ahead.

  1. Maybe just let it be? That's hard, though... hmmmm.

  2. I life the notes of feeling and practicality interweaving through your story. Nicely done.
