In improvisation, I need to be open enough to be changed by my partner. If I hold on to my “truths” nothing happens in the scene. The relationship dies and the story is over.
Today, dealing with the last wishes of my sister and the decisions that I don’t feel competent to make, I work hard at paying attention and being open to change so that I have a chance to make this all work somehow.
In this day of many words and instructions and suggestions and decisions that will never be as pure as I would like them to be for my sister, like what is the right prayer to go on the back of her holy card? At the end of this day, I have but few words to type.
Tonight, I fall asleep in front of the TV.
Good night all

I hope you had a restorative rest.
ReplyDeleteOh, also... I have done two sorts of improvisation, and at first I thought you were talking about music, but the same ideas apply...
ReplyDeleteM"ine is mostly theatre, but I've done vocal improv as well, and yes the same ideas apply. Stephane Nachmonovich is the best improv writer I know.......a musician. His books "Free Play" and "The Art of Is" are both wonderful.........actually got some sleep last night, thanks.
