Hands On

Face-to-face, real time; actually engaged with the people being served

Not so healthy; get your fucking hands off me

Building from scratch or rehabilitating done by real people from scratch

Touch that brings the breath and the healing power of God or the Universe to the painful place

Hands of bishop on the head of a person being confirmed in the faith, maybe the calling forth of the Holy Spirit to come to dwell in the newly confirmed

Hand smacked across the check of the insolent, eye-rolling pre-teen or teen who has shown clearly that the mother has lost her mind and has no business trying to tell the young person what behaviors will and will not be tolerated

P.S. I know this is just a short list of notes. These 36 hours have been, as we say today, a lot and on a number of fronts. All turned out well. As I said to my meditation community this evening, sometimes it's hard to live in the "all will be well" space and that maybe sometimes churning is what we need to do.

  1. This was pretty great for being scrabbled together, as you implied. Words themselves are always a good place to start, and you gathered a lively bundle of meanings around those words. (When I was confirmed, the bishop was supposed to slap the young supplicants, but it was more like a gentle tap. I was disappointed. I also kinda wanted to SEE that "indelible mark" on my soul, wherever that was located), ANYWAY... a meditation group is a good thing to have! A sangha! (Macoff)
