I never really cared much about my public appearance and now comfort and safety are far bigger concerns. I’ve always been ‘California casual’ and the pandemic only increased that. I live in comfy shorts with great pockets, long sleeve dry fit tops from Costco, an REI puffer vest and sneakers with orthotics. Because we are having a cold snap, I’ve traded my shorts for the cozy Vuori jogger pants my daughter in law gave me. Some chilly mornings I wear a beanie instead of a ball cap. I have a soft head band that I wear in yoga to keep my hair off my face. I have a hiking pole in my car if I am feeling very unsteady, but I have not needed it in quite awhile. I blow dry and flat iron my hair on the days I attend church. I usually dress up a bit more, wearing my Sunday sneakers and a bit of mascara. I always wear sunscreen and I have some magic potion from my dermatologist that I apply at night after washing my face. It has plumped up my skin cells so my face looks younger. I don’t color my hair and the grey is sneaking in beautifully. I’m aging gracefully in my outward appearance, but not so much with the physical limitations.
