What I give to

Chief among my donations is my monthly pledge

to the church of which I have been a member for almost 40 years. In addition to money, I've volunteered many hours of participation in meetings, sometimes being a member of the board of directors.i have learned so much from that involvement, about myself and others.
I approve of the mission of the church and the social action it encourages for it's members.
We always refer to donations of time and treasure. Involvement with my church led to me look for other opportunities and I started helping prepare meals for the homeless population in a nearby Episcopal church. I've become the salad lady, sifting through bags of greens donated my local supermarkets to the local food bank. Do small colored peppers work in a green salad? Looks like a good addition.

I recently wrote out a check to Direct Aid, a group working in Ukraine, after I saw a particularly poignant documentary

This is all a extension of my gratitude to whatever power or circumstances blessed me with my resources. I feel very fortunate to have a full life, good health and friends and supportive family. So many people have less than I do.

  1. In my opinion, ANYTHING goes in a salad! Although I don't actually NEED charity, I've ended up with some of that donated food, and I can relate to the sorting-through part. Not exactly fun, but necessary. I admire you for sticking with the same church for so long! Some habits become roots, I guess. You are doin' good... not just a do-gooder! Nice summation. (Macoff)
