Ask And It Will Be Given

Today, Good Friday, from 1-3pm the labyrinth was set up in the parish hall. The last time I walked it was in 2019.It is a canvas reproduction of the Chartres Labyrinth. Votive candles were placed around the edge of the darkened room. A row of spaced apart chairs were there for sitting to remove your shoes as the labyrinth is walked in socks. Two volunteers answered any questions and made suggestions. They modeled quiet kindness. At the entrance to the path was a brass singing bowl on a pedestal. I struck the bowl with a wooden striker to let God know I was there. Then I began to walk slowly and deliberately on the path. I had brought my hiking pole/cane for balance, but I didn’t use it. Two or three other people were walking the labyrinth at the same time. A large free standing cross was on the stage next to a banner with three crosses and a crown of thorns. We could contemplate those as we walked the meditative path. Because of my neuropathy and balance issues, I had to focus on staying on the path without too much wobbling. I was mightily relieved when I reached the end and could lace up my sneakers. Was it pride that kept me from using a walking stick for additional stability?
