When we were young, my husband and I would roam the Botanical Gardens. Once I lay down on a mossy rock. Later in the day, I had bites – warm to touch, itchy bites. My husband said, with a little laugh, “Well, you know when you lie down on the earth, you give yourself to those that feed there.” That memory is almost fifty years old. I tell myself that story every now and then. Truth and humor in one quick moment.

Chiggers. Someone was just talking about them the other day, how they ruined a delightful music festival. Maybe you thought the rock (being a rock and hosting moss) was a bit above all that. But it was part of the earth, too. (Macoff)
ReplyDeleteLittle vampires. But thank you for suckling them! At least that once. Not all the time - - heavens no! But your generosity was not unrewarded - - a story that has lasted a lifetime! ;)
