One thing I rarely talk about is the charities I support. I try to go with smaller or local ones without big overhead. Plus I will always support the jogathons or fundraisers that kids of friends participate in. I do make donations to various causes such as Kiva micro loans. I usually support women owned businesses. They repay the loan and I just loan it out again. I’ve made 17 loans since 2008. World Central Kitchen (WCK) is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. WCK is one of my favorite places to make a donation. In lieu of chocolate hearts, I funded hot meals in Ukraine and Turkey for my Valentine gift.
The Yellowhammer Fund is a reproductive justice organization in Alabama, Mississippi, and Deep South.
They have one Amazon wish list for diapers, tampons, pads and another one for emergency contraceptives and pregnancy tests. Recently, I sent diapers, pads, tampons, condoms, and emergency contraceptive pills.
Locally, I support the LAUSD Homeless Education Program. I delivered backpacks filled with school supplies to their office in August, Christmas gifts for a family in December, and sponsored a graduate by paying for their cap and gown. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank gets financial support from me so they can continue to supply fresh produce along with shelf stable food items to those needing food. Chemocessories is a local nonprofit where I donate my time. I help clean jewelry for sets and collect scarves and jewelry periodically at my church. The woman who started it had daughters in elementary school at the same time as I did. I am retired and have the time and resources to support these causes and needs without bragging about my contributions.

Thanks for all you do! I am retired also, but it just so happens that I have NO money to contribute to any charity or cause, since my car's engine blew up and I had to buy another (used) car. Nevertheless, entities that I used to donate to continue to bug me. Oh, well... glad you are in this 40Days writing group! (I'm "Macoff")...
