"Eggs?"
"That's right. Eggs."
"Why would eggs be the source of an argument?"
My petite friend stared at me, her brown eyes filled with mild disbelief, waiting for the full story to unravel. And she was right. The eggs weren't the source of the argument that had split my group of friends, not really. They were just the catalyst that blew up everything that had been brewing for sometime.
We had once been close knit, a safe haven for deep discussions and wild adventures. But, over time, as more of real life unfolded with areas of gray, periods of loss and disappointment, success and ambition all playing out, our frank words had slowly become softened and mild. We had gone from direct confrontation in the interest of knowing and understanding each other, to reminiscing fondly and avoiding hard subjects.
It started by wanting to give each other the benefit of the doubt or not to poke a fresh and meaningful wound, but words unsaid over time had eroded trust and built up frustration. Once you break the habit of intimacy, it is sometimes hard to get it back.

At least you had those years of "deep discussions and wild adventures." I want to know the details of the egg argument, though.
