Friendship Farewell

I've never been a snubber, a blocker or an unfriender.

So I'll tell it to you old school, person to person. Sadly, our friendship has run its course. Painful but true.

No bitterness, no accusations. No what ifs. We've simply evolved in opposite directions, drifted to different continents. I'm entering a new season of my life. It's no longer filled with after-work happy hours, spa days or other disposable income diversions. Those expensive good times are over for me but not for you.

What you need is another fun buddy, not a friend. If you were really a friend, you'd come to my house for a low-key evening of cheap Aldi wine and snacks. But that's not your style.

The economics of impending retirement dictates my style now. That's why I only wear makeup occasionally and the gray is slowly overtaking my hair. The time has come for us to part ways. Dear former companion, I wish you well.

  1. "...tell it to you old school ..." This is, to me, the invitation for us to join you in this direct conversation saying good bye to "dear former companion." Would that we could all be so self aware and so old school!

  2. Oh, I really relate to this. And you put it so clearly. I've been retired for a few years, and have to be ultra-careful about money. I have to periodically soothe my resentments over people who still spend freely. Fortunately, most of my friends are in the same boat. "...after-work happy hours, spa days or other disposable income diversions..." all that seems bizarre now. Even a movie out has to be carefully planned. Just out of curiosity, how much is Aldi's wine? HA. (Macoff)
