Tend to Your Own Self

Exercise. My goodness, this is among the things over which an able bodied person has full control and yet … no exercise happens over here. No longer literally true. I do limbering exercises before I get out of bed. I do shoulder and thumb exercises that seem to restore and preserve mobility and strength and lessen pain. I do five old people exercises for balance and proprioception. I do those sets of exercises regularly if not daily.

I know I need to walk every day. Walking is so good for us – for every body system, for memory and brain function, for peaceful spirit, exhilaration, joy. And yet … walking does not happen. “Maybe when the days are cooler,” she says in August. “Maybe when the weather warms up,” she says in February. “Maybe after work now that the days are longer,” she says when daylight savings time starts. “Tomorrow, for sure,” she says in the evening.

So … tomorrow. For sure.

  1. Very relatable! I am glad I have to walk my dog; I do things for her and they're also good for me! I really enjoy your last series of sentences where you're quoting yourself! (Macoff)
