The drop of a hat

The drop of a hat,
It's as simply as that,
And zero to sixty my rage
From deep under wraps,
Like an animal trapped,
Explodes all at once from its cage.

Catecholamines' rush
Leaves me feeling quite flush
Once into a rage I have flown.
And it's tough to calm down
With my head spinning round,
And I just want to be left alone.

I'm told that there's reason
For anger, in season,
An emotion both useful and real:
It can give strength to fight,
For yourself, or a plight,
or fuel political zeal.

But so sudden and hot?
Such an anger is not
At all helpful, but rather a curse.
And I really don't know
How to let it all go,
So I've written this childish verse!
