The Wobblies

I’m wobbly, like a three-legged stool my mom bought with S&H Green Stamps back in the day.

Usually a bit off balance, but mostly reliable.

The wobblies snuck up on me. When my hip aches or my knee pops, I walk funny. Sitting nine hours or more Monday through Friday at work has made me stiff and creaky. Having my bones weakened by anti-estrogen cancer meds compounded the problem.

Is my mobility disappearing? I try to walk but sometimes it’s difficult to stand long enough to make it around the block. But I’ve got to reclaim my full mobility before it slips away for good. One wobbly step at a time.

  1. Totally with you on efforts to maintain mobility and some agility. Good descriptions.

  2. The transition from sitting to standing to walking is no longer automatic for me. I’m going to borrow your wobbly word.

  4. So many reasons for wobbling! I've got "peripheral neuropathy," what my father had. My feet are NUMB. I can still feel heat, cold, and pressure, but it's as if I feel them at a far remove. This affects balance. Most of the rest of me is OK, and sometimes I forget about my feet. My shoe collection looks VERY different from my shoe collection of ten years ago. (Macoff)
