Switching Styles

As I paid $105 plus tip for my cut and color yesterday, I wondered how much longer I would care about how my hair looks.

Will that matter in my late 60s or is it essential to my self worth? My hair will look like a Brillo pad without professional intervention.

Except for an occasional pedi (because I have hooves instead of normal toenails), I am a low maintenance, Baby Boomer gal. Mascara, tinted moisterizer and lip gloss goes on my work face.

If it's not comfortable, it's not going on my aging body. No more strapless bras, heels or panty hose for me. Fortunately I work with mostly guys, so I wear what they wear--polo shirts, jeans and sneakers. I just accessorize girl-style with playful earrings.

Will personal style drop off my radar after I retire? Or will I invent a flamboyant new me? If I can't do anything with my hair, I may have to take up wearing hats. Baseball cap? Kentucky Derby fascinator? We'll see.

  1. I like the buoyancy in this narrative and the looking forward with questions but - it sounds like - not too much concern.

  2. Now I'm wondering what sort of company has guys in polo shirts, jeans, and sneakers! I'm also trying to remember if I ever paid that much for a color and cut. No more color for me! Such a relief. You'll know when to stop, I'm sure. I agree with Marmar... this piece of writing is buoyant! (Macoff)
