I have dreamed for years of being a writer, a real and recognized writer, even published. I have dabbled. I have been in writing groups. I even had a writing coach for a couple of months. Time is short now. People in my family max out at about mid-80s so I’ve got about ten years. I have some excellent children’s stories and some deep, insightful essays that might help others know they’re not alone and they can change their paths and that, for example, there are ways out of self-loathing.
I am at the pivot point to give up on my dreams or to get serious about them. I am opting for get serious.
I have joined a women’s writing collective that offers goal setting sessions and weekly check-ins. I can join an accountability group if that seems helpful. The business owner is a woman who supports herself with free lance writing and who is committed to helping other women pursue their writing dreams and achieve success. I am looking forward to this work of baby steps and giant steps.

Delighted that you are opting for getting serious. I have no doubt you will succeed and look forward to seeing more and more of your honest and caring words.
ReplyDeleteGo for it! I'm doing the same. In the past I've had articles published in local and regional magazines and gotten paid for it. But I did not choose most of the topics. I preferred to write about art and artists when I had the choice. But that market is different from fiction, for sure. I'm now intrigued by fiction. Let's assume there is time to get serious! Typing is one activity that could probably be done no matter what other body parts fail! (Macoff)
